From the pristine coast of the island of Menorca comes this exceptionally pure and delicate flor de sal. This light, flaky salt melts easily into any dish, imparting a sophisticated flavor to salads, fish and grilled meats with just a pinch.
We discovered Sal de Menorca on a trip to this beautiful island in the Mediterranean, a more verdant and rural sister to the other Balearic Islands of Mallorca and Ibiza. After sprinkling these delicate crystals on fresh roasted fish and salads, we had to share this salt with you.
In the Salinas de Concepción nature preserve, Sal de Menorca rebuilt the ancient salt flats using stone and local red clay, avoiding any plastics or cement. Their obsession is purity and quality. All their flor de sal (fleur de sel in French) is laboriously harvested by hand after months of evaporation under the hot Mediterranean sun.
Starting with advanced filtration to remove any microplastics, pure seawater fills the traditional salt flats. As the seawater evaporates, salt evaporates naturally until it is highly concentrated. As a fragile layer of the finest salt crystallizes on the surface, workers work quickly with wooden skimmers to harvest the precious flor de sal before it dissolves back in the water.
Sal de Menorca sea salt is rich in beneficial minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium which also contribute to its delicate flavors.
