Foods from the Basque Country
The Basque people are passionate about their food! Some of the world's most heralded restaurants are Basque, which is no surprise to us. Venture into any of the thousands of bars in San Sebastian or Bilbao and you will be presented with dozens of elaborate 'pintxos', the unique Basque version of tapas. The Basque Country (Euskadi) boasts over 1,000 gastronomic societies, or 'txokos', where friends gather to cook delicious meals and share time together. The rich Bay of Biscay supplies delicate Bonito del Norte tuna and some of the finest anchovies in the world. And then there are the aged cheeses and vibrant vegetables - it is a food lover's paradise!
