Description
Crunchy almond turrón is a delicious mix of roasted almonds and sweet honey nougat. These little rounds of turrón are a great way to enjoy a snack sized piece of this classic Spanish treat. They are so packed with almonds that they are about as healthy as a candy can be! Serve with freshly brewed coffee or your favorite tea.
The master confectioners at Vicens form these turrón candies by hand in the village of Agramunt, just as they have since 1775. What was once only a Christmas candy, turrón is now enjoyed across Spain all year long.
Vicens roasts their almonds fresh daily. Honey, egg whites and sugar are heated in a kettle, then blended with the almonds. While still warm, the mixture is formed by hand into small rounds, then packaged in individually so that you can enjoy them one at a time.
Torrons Vicens was founded in 1775 in the town of Agramunt in Catalonia. This special Spanish candy has protected status (PGI) to make sure that the quality and the candy-making tradition are protected from imitations. Turrón with this status must follow strict methods and must be made in the village of Agramunt.
In 2016, Angel Velasco, the master turrón maker at Vicens, was awarded the title of “Best Pastry Chef in the World” at the prestigious Madrid Fusion food show. He was joined on stage by famed pastry chef Albert Adrià, who collaborated with him to create a line of dynamic new turrón flavors, such as Gin Tonic and Arroz con Leche, which are available at La Tienda.
