Don Harris, founder of La Tienda in Williamsburg, was honored with the Cross of Civil Merit at a reception at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The honor is awarded by the King of Spain for “extraordinary services promoting the people, culture and foods of Spain here in the United States.”

La Tienda operates both a retail store and an online business that imports Spanish gourmet foods. His shop carries olive oils, hams, wines, kitchenware and many other products.

Harris’ first visit Spain as a Navy chaplain in 1965 started a lifelong love for the country.
