Tiny mackerel are a Galician delicacy, with a mild flavor and delicate, flaky texture. Grilled and packed by hand in olive oil, these fillets are a delicacy. Add to fresh garden salads or create a delicious canapé. We like to serve them on toast rounds with sour cream and thyme.
Ramón Peña brings these little fish to their facilities every morning, just hours after harvest. The mackerel (called caballa in Spain) are then grilled and hand-packed one-by-one into each tin. Olive oil is poured over the fish to preserve the tender texture and flavor.
These small mackerel are very mild and healthful. They are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that is good for our health.
