Malleolus 2008 by Bodegas Emilio Moro

Region: Riberia del Duero - Rating: 92+ '...tannic, savory offering...'

$80.50 WN-85-08

Qty:

  • Full bodied red wine
  • Aged 18 months in French oak
  • Made with 100% Tinta del Pais grapes
  • Will drink nicely through 2023

92+ Points - "The 2008 Malleolus comes from older vines and spent 18 months in French oak. It gives up a promising nose of pain grille, mineral, espresso, violets, and blackberry. This is followed by a tannic, savory offering with just enough fruit for balance. It will benefit from 2-3 years of additional cellaring to melt some of the tannins and will drink nicely through 2023. Emilio Moro has a lengthy history as one of the finest Bodegas in Ribera del Duero." -The Wine Advocate

COMPOSITION: 100% Tinta del Pais

TASTING NOTES:
92 Points - "Vivid ruby. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of red and dark berries, licorice and cracked pepper. Gains spiciness and florality with air and shows impressive energy and silky texture. Zesty acidity adds cut to the finish, which leaves traces of minerals and cracked pepper behind. I really like this wine's energy." -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

In Latin, "Malleolus" means vine, in Spanish Malleolus means Majuelo, which is a word used specifically in Ribera Del Duero for vineyard. The grapes used in Malleolus are chosen from vines that are 26 to 76 yrs old. The wine was aged for 18 months in French Allier oak.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER:

On the other hand, the vineyards used for Malleolus are 25-75 years old. The oldest vines, over 80 years old, are in Malleolus de Valderramiro wine.
