The following wines are included in this sampler:
TERRA DE CASTELO SENSACION BLANCO
Looking for Spain’s best kept secret? Look no farther than a bottle of crisp white wine from Ribeiro. This D.O. is located in Galicia at the convergence of three rivers. The coveted Terra do Castelo Sensacion Blanco is a mouthwatering regional blend, with soft, clean edges and would partner well with an array of tapas and fresh seafood.
HEREDAD DE PEÑALOSA
In the quiet cool of the night, native Verdejo grapes are harvested on the high plateaus of Rueda, which overlook the sleeping medieval villages of Castilla y Leon. Bodegas Pascual’s Heredad de Peñalosa is a fresh crisp white that is packed with aromas of white peach and pineapple. Perfect to drink on its own or to pair with fresh fish, seafood, salads and fideua, you’ll savor this Verdejo until the last sip.
Region: Ribera del Guadiana
Medium-bodied, smooth and drinkable, Zaleo’s winemaker Manuel García is making a name for one of Spain’s newest D.O.s, the Ribera del Guadiana region of Extremadura. Casting deep purple with tinges of magenta, the wine sings with scents of cherry, black plum and just the slightest hint of rose petal. Produced in a Spanish “Shangri-La” of mountains, sparkling lakes, ancient olive groves and vines, this wine will transport your everyday dinner of steak, lamb chops or chorizo to a whole new level.
LAR DE PAULA MADURADO
Think all Tempranillos taste the same? Let the Meruelo family challenge your expectations with this fresh, nuanced red wine vintage from grapes grown in the privileged micro-climate of Rioja Alavesa, south of the Basque region. After six months in oak, you’ll taste the mature plum, cherries and hints of dried herbs. The Lar de Paula Madurado makes a lovely dance partner to slices of aged Manchego, grilled meats and traditional cocidos from Spain.
Close your eyes and let a sip of this red wine transport you to the vineyards of Bodegas Fernandez in Jumilla, Spain, where these grapes grow alongside almond trees and olive groves. Drinkable on its own with notes of fresh blackberries, nutmeg and cloves, or happily paired with a grilled Ibérico steak, the ruby red of this Monastrell will bring color and spice to your favorite gatherings.
ABELIS CARTHAGO LUI SELECTION
Composition: Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo)
Lui, Lui – a deeply purple Tempranillo with hints of dark chocolate, spice, black fruit and wood smoke. A rib-eye, grilled kebab, or rack of lamb would be well placed alongside a glass of Lui. Made with grapes grown on a family vineyard along the banks of the River Duero, this saucy, full-bodied red is true to its Toro roots.
