- Slightly sparkling, very refreshing
- Great paired with seafood or tapas
- Fresh taste with hint of citrus
Slightly sparkling and very dry, Arregi Getariako Txakolina is a fresh tasting white wine perfect for pairing with fish, seafood or tapas. Txakolina (or txakoli) is produced in the Basque Country and until recently, it was rarely available outside of that region.
We visited the vineyards overlooking the ocean and tasted this fresh, rare white wine and fell in love with it. We arranged to have our supplier bring in this excellent Txakoli to share with our customers at La Tienda.
COMPOSITION: 100% Hondarribi Zuri
TASTING NOTES:
Pale yellow in color with an intense nose of white fruit and fine touches of citrus, Arregi Getariako Txakolina is a refreshing, very dry white wine. On the palate, it is fresh and tasty with rich herbaceous and citrus notes. It is very dry with high acidity and lower alcohol content than many wines.
Traditionally served as an aperitif, it is usually used within one year of bottling to maintain its slight effervescence. When served, it is normally poured in small amounts into tall glasses from an arm's length away. Once in the glass, it should be consumed quickly so that it doesn't lose its sparkle.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Founded in 1995 by D. Alejandro Arregui Mendizábal, this family winery is located in Basque Country east of the town of Zarautz (Gipuzkoa). The winery's south-southwest facing slope of land was part of the ancient village of Ibaita.
Arregi Txakolina is produced exclusively with grapes from their own vineyard, under the close supervision of D. Alejandro Arregui and his two sons.
When founded in 1995, 5 acres of vineyards were planted and the first vintage of dry, white txakoli wine was available after the 1996 harvest. Currently, almost 24 acres are cultivated annually.
The winery's 2-story warehouse is home to stainless steel tanks with a capacity of 4,000-5,000 liters each. Grapes are manually harvested and whisked to the pneumatic press, where they are gently pressed. Annual production is 60,000 liters.
