- Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Mencia
- Ripe with firm tannins
- Suave and tasty midweight red wine
90 Points - [Refers to 2000 vintage] - "Massive yet proportional, with olive, rubber and ripe black fruit on the manly bouquet. The palate is ponderous but tasty, with a huge dose of syrupy berry and black plum flavors. Ripe as all get out, with firm tannins. To call it a powerhouse would be taking things lightly." -The Wine Enthusiast, April 2006.COMPOSITION: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 30% Mencia.
TASTING NOTES:
[Refers to 2000 vintage] - 90 Points - "Pungently spicy aromas of red and dark berries, cherry, plum and espresso. Zesty red fruit flavors are tinged by white pepper and minerals, with fine-grained tannins and gentle acidity providing spine and focus. Delicate spice notes on the finish add interest to this suave, tasty midweight." -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Issue 128, September/October 2006.
[Refers to 2000 vintage] - 93 Points - "A blend of roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Mencia, this Spanish gem offers multilayered aromas and flavors, cherry and dark berry fruit, with echoes of dark chocolate, leather, dried herbs and much more. Complete and so extremely satisfying, it should drink well for a good decade more, and is well worth buying now to save for a special occasion to come." -Wine Review Online, April 26, 2006.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
The 1999 Luna Beberide Reserva Tinto is produced by the Luna family of El Bierzo. Founded in 1987, the winery's philosophy is to produce quality wines from primarily native grapes while respecting the land. No herbicides or pesticides are used on the vineyards.
To further this pursuit of quality wine, the winery carefully sorts the grape clusters to eliminate any imperfect bunches. This wine is fermented with native yeasts prior to aging for 26 months in French and American oak barrels. All of the Luna Beberide wines are unfiltered and unstabilized.
