- Listed as one of 'Spain's Top 100 Wine Values'
- Excellent introduction to Priorat wines
- Deep and rich with good breadth
90 Points - Spain's Top 100 Wine Values - "The 2005 Los 800 is a rarity, a value-priced Priorat. It is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 30% Carinena, 10% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French and American oak for six months. Purple-colored, it offers up a roasted bouquet of cedar, pencil lead, earth notes, cherry, and blueberry. Elegant on the palate, it conceals a bit of structure under the fruit and should evolve for 2-3 years. This lengthy effort will be at its best from 2011 to 2020. It is a very good introduction to the wines of Priorat." -The Wine Advocate, Issue 181, February 2009. (more info)

Pungent aromas of dark berries, cherry skin and smoked meat. Deep and rich, with gently sweet cherry/berry flavors and good breadth. A touch loose on the finish, which leaves sweet berry and smoky notes behind." -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Issue 145, July/August 2009. ABOUT PRIORAT WINES: Two hours from Barcelona, and a world away, lies the tiny wine region called Priorat. The remote rocky hills produce intense, full reds that many consider to be among Spain's elite wines. The secret is in the slate filled soil, called llicorella in Catalan, and the extreme weather of the region. Grape vines on the roughly 4,000 acres of steep hills suffer hot dry summers and severe cold winters creating low yield grape vines that provide concentrated flavor. The region's innovative winemakers have created a style that has become one of the hottest trends in wine. This wine has concentrated ripe berry flavors well balanced by mineral taste from the slate soils of the region. It is a "big" wine, great paired with beef, lamb or duck. Aged in oak for 6 months, it has a long finish without harsh tannins. (close) |
