Secastillo - Somontano - 2004 Red Wine REGION: Somontano - Rating: 91 $49.00 / WN-140
COMPOSITION: 100% old vines Granacha (Granache), 14% alcohol TASTING NOTES: "Opaque purple-coloured, it has a beautiful nose of pain grille, lead pencil, black currant, and blueberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied, dense wine with layers of flavour. With enough structure to evolve for several years, this classy wine should drink well through 2015." Jay Miller of The Wine Advocate About The Producer: Secastilla Valley, located at the north-eastern edge of Somontano, has all of the distinctive climatic conditions needed for vine growing. The winery has recovered ancient Garnacha vineyards, the traditional Secastilla Valley variety, on its rocky hillsides, 700 metres above sea level, in the highest point of the Somontano region. Viñas del Vero use these grapes and other complementary varieties, harvested at the end of October to create a complex and highly unique wine. The first vintage was 2001. The production is very limited.
