- Intense aromas of fruit and spice
- A well-crafted Crianza
- Long, persistent finish
89 Points - [Refers to 2008 vintage] - "The 2008 Tierra Crianza is also 100% Tempranillo aged in barrel for between 12 and 14 months. It has a rounded, generous bouquet with chocolate infused dark cherry fruit that billows nicely from the glass. The palate is well-balanced with good definition on the entry. It is controlled and focused, with pure black cherries and cassis towards the primal finish. This is a well-crafted, if slightly predictable Crianza. Drink 2013-2018." -Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
COMPOSITION: 100% Tempranillo
90 Points - [Refers to 2004 vintage] - "Dark ruby-colored, it has an expressive nose of cedar, spice, tobacco, and blackberry. Supple on the palate with a sense of elegance, the wine has intense flavors, fine depth, and a seamless finish. Drink it through 2014." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Cherry-red color with bluish fringe. Intense fruity aromas and spicy overtones of vanilla and cinammon. Deep and full flavored with a long persistent finish. An ideal accompaniment to white and red meat dishes as well as small game."
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
This family-run winery was founded in 1992, which was the first year it released its young red wines on the market. Located in Labastida's Jewish Quarter (Rioja Alavesa), its facilities consist of four houses, two of which are among the oldest in the town. Underneath these houses is a curious network of caves that dates back to 1200. These caves are ideally suited for storing young wines (in concrete tanks) and aging vintage wines, since there are no temperature changes or noise, and the degree of humidity remains constant all year long.
The art of viticulture was passed down to the producers from their forefathers, and the latest generation has taken the next step: for the past 10 years, they have been engaged in both wine growing and wine making. They use the grapes from their own vineyards, which are located throughout Labastida, with a production output that they endeavor to keep below 6,000 kilos per hectare. Their own vineyards cover 20 hectares and currently produce the following grape varieties: Tempranillo 60%, Garnacho 15%, Viura 10%, Grenache White 5%, Malvasia 5%, Graciano 5%.
