COMPOSITION: A blend of Treixadura, Loureira, Godello and Palomino
TASTING NOTES:
Crisp, aromatic and versatile dry white with a soft finish. Treixadura, Loureira and Godello provide character and structure over a base of selected Palomino.
This is yet another gush of goodness from Spain, which is fast emerging as the source of some of the world's most interesting and quaffable - in the best sense - white wines. The reason is Spain's unique white grape varieties.
What results is a delicate, fragrant, dry white wine with a scent of almonds, ripe apple, and hay. Noteworthy is an attractive textural delicacy. And there's no oak, either.
Never mind those banal 'international-styled,' one-size-fits-all white wines. This is an original - a lovely watercolor of a wine, if you will. It's clearly meant to be drunk young and cool, preferably with fish, shellfish, or cheeses. The price is superb. (more info)

ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Founded in 1940 and owned to the present by the Méndez family. José Luis Méndez and his daughters Ana and Laura head one of the most progressive and stable wine firms in Galicia, and the largest private bodega in Spain's D.O. Ribeiro.
The Ribeiro vineyards are located on the slopes of the Miño River inland from D.O. Rías Baixas near the provincial capital and ancient Roman mining center of Orense. Highly regarded over the centuries for the quality of its wines, Ribeiro's quality suffered during much of the 20th century in favor of volume and blending for the voraciously thirsty Galician market. Campante and the Méndez family have lead the region's quality resurgence during the past decade.
Here, Albariño gives way to Treixadura and Loureiro as the primary noble varieties, along with a small amount of Godello. While refreshing and fragrant in style, Ribeiro is softer in its acidity than the typical Rías Baixas white, allowing for a more consistently dry finish.
The home estate, Viña Reboreda, provides all of the grapes used in the top wine, Gran Reboreda. For the Viña Reboreda brand, grapes are purchased from local growers after meeting the highest quality standards. (less info)
