This rectangular dish is a good size to cook casseroles or other traditional dishes. I know it isn't very Spanish, but I cook cornbread in this kind of cazuela and bring it directly from the oven to the table.
The terra cotta keeps the cornbread nice and warm for quite a long time. It is still hot when the family wants seconds. The glaze on the cazuela contains no lead. It is safe for all cooking applications, although it must be presoaked in water before being used on the stove. I prefer to be on the safe side and use them only in the oven. They are 2.5 inches deep.
