Nearly a century ago, in 1910, a woman named Ines Rosales started making olive oil tortas (tortas de aceite) by hand at her bakery next to a stagecoach stop in Sevilla. Her tortas proved so popular that before long, she could not keep up with the demand and she employed the women of the local village to assist her in producing these crisp and delicate treats. She used local ingredients including extra virgin olive oil. In a short time this Andalucian specialty became known and enjoyed throughout Spain.

Today the tradition continues. Ines Rosales Sweet Orange tortas are still made by hand with the same recipe Ines Rosales created almost 100 years ago. Women from the local village are still employed to hand-flatten and hand-wrap the tortas that are made in small batches.

These Orange Dessert Crisps are reminiscent of the pie crust cookies your Mom might have made for you when she was trimming her pie before putting it in the oven. Those were generally sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, but these Ines Rosales ones are lightly orange flavored.

Ingredients

Unbleached wheat flour, extra virgin olive oil, sugar, caramelized orange (orange peel, glucose and fructose syrup, sugar, citric acid), sesame seeds, yeast, natural orange flavor, sea salt. Contains wheat and traces of tree nuts (almonds).

"Perfect for breakfast, tea time, and just an ideal product to have in the house for last minute entertaining. A delicious natural snack."

"I enjoy these orange tortas very much. They are both delicate and flavorful, perfect to serve with tea. My only issue is they were already pricey, and now I see that has increased. $15.00 for a dozen is a little much. I will purchase again, but only when they are on sale. "

"Wow! I came upon one of the Seville Orange Tortas through a friend, so I bought a package, then I ordered 24 pcs. more from you directly, I love them. I am an "orange" lover and I had planned to serve them at dinner with sherbert for friends, forget that, could not part with my coveted "stash", maybe next time I'll share! Thanks you for making such a gratifying tasty morsel!"
