Ceviche, also known as cebiche or seviche, is a dish usually made with raw fish marinated in citrus juice and spices. The marinate gently 'cooks' the fish without heat. Made in Peru with lime and aji amarillo, our ceviche seasoning mix is an easy way to prepare fresh ceviche at home.
Popular throughout Central and South America, the greatest variety of ceviche preparations are found in Peru, Ecuador and Chile. Considered a part of Peru's national heritage, classic Peruvian ceviche is made with chunks of raw fish marinated with lime, sliced onions, chili, salt and pepper. Corvina and sea bass are often the fish of choice for ceviche in Peru but many regional variations exist with different types of fish or seafood and spices.
Since ceviche is not cooked with heat, it must always be prepared with very fresh seafood.
To prepare ceviche with our seasoning mix:
Pour envelope contents in a bowl, add 1/2 cup (125 ml) water and stir.
Dice approximately 1 pound (500 gr) of your favorite fish into 1 inch square pieces.
Add fish to prepared mix, salt to taste and marinate for 7-10 minutes.
Serve with finely sliced onions, garnish with lettuce and boiled sweet potatoes or corn.
