Argentinian Reggianito cheese is a European style cheese very similar to Parmigiano-Reggiano. Made by Italian immigrants to Argentina, Reggianito means 'little Reggiano' as the cheese is produced in wheels much smaller than Parmigiano-Reggiano. Made with pasteurized cow's milk, Reggianito is slightly saltier than its Italian namesake but it still has the zesty crunch of the original. Reggianito is cured longer than other Latin American cheeses - adding to its rich flavor. If you like Parmesan, you'll love Reggianito as well!
In Latin America, Argentina is second only to Brazil in size and is home to endless miles of grazing pastures. The fertile plains or 'pampas' of Argentina allow cattle to be fed year-round from green pastures highly suited for quality dairy production.
Argentina is also home to many Italian immigrants. When they began to relocate to Argentina over 100 years ago, they missed their beloved Parmesan cheese. They missed it so much that they started making their own version using local Argentinian ingredients and traditional European methods.
Use Reggianito cheese the same way you would use Parmesan. It is a firm cheese best used grated or shaved. Reggianito is great for cooking - it's a natural topping for salads as well as pasta and rice dishes. (close)
