Pajarero figs are one of the finest varieties in Spain, if not the world. These dried delicacies will remind you immediately of the glittering fruit of the markets of Extremadura where they are grown. They are sweet and mild, with a tender bite.
This particular variety has been popular in Spain for centuries, ever since it was introduced by the Arabs over 1000 years ago. Ever since, Pajarero figs have been an important part of Spanish cuisine, particularly in tapas where they are served with local favorites like chorizo or wrapped with Serrano ham.
These figs are delicious by themselves as a healthy snack. They’re also wonderful served with goat cheese with a drizzle of Spanish orange blossom honey, or added to spinach salad with crunchy Marcona almonds. This welcome hint of sweet dresses up any meal!
Pajarero figs are still harvested by hand, to protect their thin skin from breaking after they’ve ripened under Spain’s hot summer sun. They’re dried slowly, to maintain their full flavor.
These figs are harvested in Extremadura and packed by a family company in Valencia.
