Often, it is served with caramelized sugar which is melted on the bottom of a custard cup before the warm flan is added and cooled. To make it from scratch requires patience -- and lots of eggs! Sugar, corn starch, locust bean gum and carageenan (thickeners), salt, vanilla, yellow #6, FD & yellow #5. Caramel Syrup: Glucose liquid, sugar, water, and caramel coloring.
