Amalia 'Chocolate a la Taza' Thick Low Fat Hot Chocolate $3.95 13.5oz/380g / BV-07
For over 100 years, Spaniards have enjoyed the thickest, creamiest, richest cup of hot chocolate in the world! They dip fresh churros into a cup of this hot, soothing beverage, which is almost like molten chocolate. Amalia recreates the piping hot cup of thick, creamy chocolate -- 'chocolate a la taza' -- just like the one you remember when you started your day in Spain -- and it is virtually fat free. It is so easy to make. All you do is follow the directions on the packet: put about 2 or 3 tablespoons of Amalia per cup of milk in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. You determine the thickness of your drink by the amount of time you let it simmer. I usually pour the chocolate drink into my cup after two minutes or so. If you are feeling ambitious, we have a churro recipe for you on our site, and we even offer a churro maker! However, donuts and other pastries are also good companions to the traditional thick chocolate. (more info)

A Tienda customer offers the following variation: Add 1/4 cup of Amalia chocolate to 1 cup of milk over medium heat. (Not the double boiler as mentioned on the package). When the drink thickens to a pudding consistency, add either 1/2 vanilla bean split or a dash of vanilla to enhance the chocolate flavor. (less info) |
