  • Thick, creamy hot chocolate
  • Easy to make
For over 100 years, Spaniards have enjoyed the thickest, creamiest, richest cup of hot chocolate in the world! They dip fresh churros into a cup of this hot, soothing beverage, which is almost like molten chocolate.

For over 100 years, Spaniards have enjoyed the thickest, creamiest, richest cup of hot chocolate in the world! They dip fresh churros into a cup of this hot, soothing beverage, which is almost like molten chocolate.

Amalia recreates the piping hot cup of thick, creamy chocolate -- 'chocolate a la taza' -- just like the one you remember when you started your day in Spain -- and it is virtually fat free.

It is so easy to make. All you do is follow the directions on the packet: put about 2 or 3 tablespoons of Amalia per cup of milk in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. You determine the thickness of your drink by the amount of time you let it simmer. I usually pour the chocolate drink into my cup after two minutes or so.
If you are feeling ambitious, we have a churro recipe for you on our site, and we even offer a churro maker! However, donuts and other pastries are also good companions to the traditional thick chocolate.

A Tienda customer offers the following variation:

Add 1/4 cup of Amalia chocolate to 1 cup of milk over medium heat. (Not the double boiler as mentioned on the package). When the drink thickens to a pudding consistency, add either 1/2 vanilla bean split or a dash of vanilla to enhance the chocolate flavor.

Carillon  5 Star Rating
"If you love hot chocolate but find the various hot chocolate ready mixes that are available in the grocery chain stores too sweet, this is the hot chocolate for you. Sometimes, I simply mix it with milk heated in the microwave. Other times, I heat it with milk over the stove and allow it to thicken. When served thick in an espresso cup with a small dollop of whipped cream, it is a delicious afternoon treat or after dinner dessert. This is my favorite hot chocolate."

A. Cameron  5 Star Rating
"I loved this item. Just a little mixed with milk goes a long way. For a treat, I mixed hot milk with Amalia chocolate a la taza and mixed that with a cup of brewed coffee (the 20% torrefecto mix). It was sooooo delicious."

Robert Randall  5 Star Rating
"Very good and I don't usually order low fat products."
