This classic sparkling cider from Asturias is the perfect way to celebrate with friends. Asturias, in the far north of Spain, has a long tradition of growing apples, and the favorite drink of the area is called 'sidra' or apple cider. I remember visiting the area and enjoying a frothy cup of sidra that was served by the waiter raising the bottle high in the air and pouring it to a glass that he was holding at his hip. Not a drop was spilled!
While our sidra is not the traditional alcoholic beverage, it is made by the most famous maker in Spain, 'El Gaitero'. Normally, when you are planning a party with wine, beer or hard liquor, you always include an alternative beverage for those who do not drink alcohol. Why not serve El Gaitero sparkling cider to your guests rather than the usual lack-luster sodas? I think they would enjoy something different -- and something so refreshing!
