Fabes con Almejas - Asturian Beans with Clams
A Classic Asturian Recipe with Granja Fabada Beans

$19.95  15 oz   / BE-06

Quantity:

Our authentic “Asturian Beans with Clams”, or “Fabes con Almejas” , a special fabada de la Granja is the ultimate cocido, grown and prepared only in the Principality of Asturias.

This ready-to-eat recipe is made in Asturias using all natural ingredients: fresh clams, white wine, fresh garlic, real saffron, olive oil, special Granja beans, and a broth which contains parsley, pimentón, smoked paprika and more.

Altogether this rich cocido is about as authentic as can be without visiting Asturias. Open this generous tin and warm in a bowl or plate. Better still; serve it in a cazuela for the final touch of authenticity!   (more info)

Gourmets insist that authentic Asturian fabes can only be prepared in Asturias, and nowhere else. And the beans have to be plump Granja beans, and Granja beans alone – grown only on a farm within the Principality of Asturias – not even in neighboring León.

As a matter of fact, the most famous restaurant to serve fabada is La Machina – and it doesn’t even have a sign. Everybody (who is anybody) knows! We drove around for an hour outside the capitol of Oviedo looking for it, and kept passing it by. You can identify it by the miniature model of La Machina (Railroad locomotive) hanging on a sign post.

What a hearty feast we hand when we arrived!
