Croquetas de Ajoarriero are a special creamy treat, with garlic, cod and piquillo peppers combining into an amazing taste profile. The crunchy bread crumb exterior brings everything together.
Handmade by local women in Oikina, a village in the Basque country, our croquettes are individually made by Yurrita with only the very best all-natural ingredients. The filling is made with fresh milk delivered daily from a local creamery and the olive oil used is always extra virgin. Made with real bacalao and Spanish piquillo peppers, these are probably better than any croquetas you'll find anywhere, even in tapas bars in Spain!
Ajoarriero is typically a cod fish dish made with garlic and peppers. It originated in Navarra, a region in northern Spain known for its amazing vegetables. The name Ajoarriero is derived from the muleteers (arrieros) who traded garlic in the inland towns and villages of their region. The arrieros prepared this dish using some of the non-perishable items they had on hand in their travels: bacalao, piquillo peppers, garlic and olive oil.
It couldn't be easier to enjoy this delicious Spanish tapa at home. Using a deep fryer or a pan filled with at least 2 inches of oil preheated to 375 degrees, cook in small batches for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the croquetas to a serving plate with a slotted spoon and serve immediately.
Keep frozen until ready to cook.

"I just received this croquetas and cooked them as an appetizer before dinner...they are delicious, crispy outside and creamy inside with bits of piquillo pepper. We loved them, thanks La Tienda for this treat."
