We would like to share with you a special find discovered by our friend the wine revolutionary Jorge Ordonez. Jorge seeks out 'jewels in the rough' among bodegas across Spain and then helps to bring out the best qualities in their wines.

The 2005 Bodegas Volver Tempranillo red wine is a perfect example. Jorge found this bodega in the heart of La Mancha, a wine region until recently known more for producing quantity than quality. But here he discovered and nurtured the wine produced from a field of old Tempranillo grape vines, planted more than 40 years ago, aged it in French oak for over a year, and helped to create an incredible wine.

We really liked the full flavor and balance of this wine. It has a nice fruity start (blackberry, cherry), balanced by vanilla, undoubtedly from the oak aging. With Tempranillo wines there is often a strong tannin effect as the wine hits the back of your mouth - but with Volver the tannins merely support the flavor of the wine without taking over. The full berry flavors and nice oaky balance just carry on through to a delicious finish!
